Help me give my students an American Sign Language rug, a bouncing seat, and bibs to create a comfortable learning environment.
This project expired on December 7, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Although my students are young, they have already faced many adversities and challenges in their lives. Many of them come from single parent and low income households. They have seen violence, poverty, and hardship that many of us cannot fathom.
Through all of this, they remain loving, selfless, and eager to learn.
They reach out for a hug when they enter my classroom and cannot wait to tell me about their weekend or night at home. They never leave without saying goodbye or “See you tomorrow!” They thrive in environments where they can learn in outside of the box ways, at their own pace, and without judgement.
Ultimately, preparing our children for Kindergarten is my main priority. Our job is to make sure they are on the right track, give them their best chance, and do everything in our power to set them up for sucess at every stage of their young lives.
We teach our students sign language at a young age to give them a means of communication when they aren't able to speak yet, as well as a way to communicate with hearing impaired people they may meet in the future. With this ASL rug, the signs our children learn will be easily visible at all times.
When our students are new to our school, they are often unsure of their surrounding and feel comforted by movement.
When you have a classroom full of children, it can often be hard to attend to one child for long periods of time. With this smart bouncing seat, children will be able to feel a sense of comfort while we attend to our other students. These meal time bibs will help us have an easy and quick clean up after meals and allow us to spend more time learning!
