My students need some comfy carpet spaces where they can sit and work together, lay down to read or listen to me reading aloud; some places that allow for breaks away from their desks!
I've been in the same classroom for the past 13 years, and quite honestly, I never really thought about ever having to switch classrooms, but that time has now come. I will still be teaching third grade for the upcoming school year, but will be in a new-to-me classroom. Just like a move to a new home, a new school, or even a new job, I'm feeling a little anxious about the move, but overall excited. My kiddos share a lot of these emotions with me as well. Will the new classroom look the same? Will we continue with the same theme and colors? All important questions to ponder!
My students are an extension of my family, and our classroom is our home away from home!
We spend a lot of time together learning, having fun, and getting to know each other throughout the school year! Within the four walls of our classroom I strive to make it as comfy and cozy feeling as possible, and a space in which provides optimal learning and teaching!
My Project
When my kiddos first enter the classroom, the first thing they do is go to their desks, take their chairs down, and have a seat while listening to our morning announcements. They continue to sit in these same seats for several more parts of the school day! Don't get me wrong, there are still plenty of opportunities for movement and options for sitting around the classroom to do work, too.
Slowly but surely, I am trying to incorporate some more flexible seating options in our classroom, and with moving into a new classroom for the upcoming school year, I'd love to get some new carpets, too!
Some ones that don't feel and look like every other classroom carpet and ones that don't scream "old and dirty!" I often have parents who come in to read to the kiddos, help facilitate monthly art projects, who will help with small groups, and so on, and they'd even rather sit on a chair then on our current carpet situation! I don't blame them, honestly!
