Comfy Corner for Reading!
My students need a place to read and relax with a rug, pillows and a bookcase! This can help create a dynamic and safe environment for productive reading and enrichment.
My students are from Chester, Pennsylvania and surrounding districts and go to Chester Community Charter School. This year we opened a new campus in Aston, Pennsylvania I am teaching 6th grade English Language Arts. This is my first year teaching, and I am excited to work with these students and learn more about the community.
Yesterday, August 22 was our first day of school.
In order to help these students thrive and succeed in the classroom I am looking to help give them comfort in my classroom. I want to create a reading center where my students can sit and read and feel as though they can relax and imagine themselves in the book.
CCCS schools serves students whose families are all below the poverty line, and each student is eligible for free lunch and breakfast. The Town of Chester has the highest homicide rate in the country, and these students need help from anyone who can.
My students will find a place to sit and relax with a new reading corner. They currently only have a small mat to sit on, that can only fit two students. With the additional rug, pillows, and bookshelves, these kids will be able to have a secure area to read.
By giving them a comfy rug to lie on, students can focus their mind on the book and improve the literacy that they are lacking.
These students want to learn, but need to support and area to do so!
Please support this project and I know that my students will be so happy and excited! They will be happy to take photos and make thank you cards for all donors!
