This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from mostly low-income families. My students love coming to school to learn! Each morning students enjoy breakfast and then proceed to the carpet area for morning meeting. Students LOVE morning meeting. It is a chance for them to feel special because they are greeted by their classmates and can share something about themselves.

It is important that my students have an area to begin each day successfully.

This designated area is useful, but I think students would enjoy coming to our morning carpet time more if they had a specific place to sit on our classroom rug.

My Project

This rug will help students have a designated area to complete our morning routines. We have a morning meeting every morning to welcome each other to class, share out something about ourselves, and complete a team building activity.

We move to our calendar time where we review how to use a calendar, months, dates, days, place value, telling time, counting coins, and weather.

Students are introduced to new math concepts each morning, but it is important that we review what we have already learned this year. This helps students remember and practice these concepts.

Throughout the day, we also have read alouds at the carpet. No matter what reading level the student is at, each enjoy listening to the teacher read a story.
