Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 21 students. My students come from diverse backgrounds. Being a public school in rural New Mexico, we are blessed to have many cultures and backgrounds within our classroom. We have students who are living in poverty. We have students with special needs. Our school is in the middle of a small town, so we have a mix of middle-class working families and those struggling to make ends meet. We are a Title I school. We have about 600 students in our school.

My goal is always to create a classroom community, or as I like to call it, a family.

Kindergarten is all about exploring and getting along and that is our goal for the year! My students are kind and creative and love all of the opportunities that DonorsChoose.org has given to us!

My Project

My students love to read and listen to books in our classroom library. At the moment, they are sitting on the rug while reading. I have researched many different types of seating options for our rug area. From carpet squares to bean bags, nothing seemed quite right. That was until I came across the carpet comfy chairs from Lakeshore.

Floor seats will allow my students have a comfortable, flexible and portable way to enjoy reading in our classroom library.

This will help to cultivate a love of reading for my students. If they have a comfortable spot, they are more likely to go to the carpet and enjoy a good book!
