With every new school year comes a new group of unique learners. I am going into my seventh year teaching and every year I get just as excited to meet my new students!
"Children need a classroom environment they can understand and trust." -Responsive Classroom
Challenges excite me. Diverse learners excite me. Unique personalities excite me. It's not easy, but I love making my classroom a safe space for my students to learn to love school, achieve goals and feel successful.
Most of our lessons are focused around our classroom carpet. Being in a culturally diverse Title 1 school, we start our days with "morning meeting." This is the time we come together to greet each other, discuss our feelings, clear our minds of clutter and set our learning goals for the day. In addition, our reading lessons all take place in this central learning location. It's also used through out the day for a flexible seating option during most other subject areas. This carpet is where you'll find my first graders "acting out" their fiction texts or reading to a buddy. This carpet is where you'll hear students thinking aloud or turning and talking with a partner.
