Every student deserves the opportunity to become the next Picasso, but sometimes we don't always have the resources, or the funds, to do so.
I teach Pre-K through 5th-grade art in a Title I elementary school located in a small, rural town where about 85% of our student population receive free lunches.
Students come from all different backgrounds but have one thing in common: they love creating art.
As many people know but tend to forget, art supplies don't last forever. Kids will be kids. Crayons will be broken, the glue will be smashed and marker tops will disappear into thin air. As an artist, there are always new ideas for great projects popping up in my head, but I can't always afford to buy all the necessary supplies myself.
Their need for exploration of new materials is something I share with them. Having a tight budget makes it hard to provide each grade level with the skill-appropriate tools they need. Through this site, I hope to give my little artists as many supplies as possible to help them fall in love with art the way I did as a young child.
My Project
Elementary students are very curious and enjoy being able to use the art supplies but sometimes there are materials that should be kept out of reach, especially from the younger ones. As of now, I have gallon containers of paint and water buckets stored on rolling carts-which is an accident waiting to happen.
Help me give my art room the proper storage shelves to keep the room organized and spills and accidents to a minimum and a new colorful rug to brighten up the room!
Our classroom is also in desperate need of a new rug. The colorful squares will be great to help kids learn to stay in their own space while sitting on the rug which will keep distractions to a minimum when given directions!
