This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are always on the move. Flexible seating will promote a positive and safe learning environment.
My students come to school everyday ready to learn.
I have a classroom full of energetic Kindergartners. They are so young and full of life and are always on the move. I teach at a Title 1 school in Dallas, Texas, where about ninety percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch along with backpack food on the weekends. Since we are in an area of poverty many of our babies come to school without the basic necessities. But every child that comes to our school knows it is a safe and loving environment and they know their teachers will do whatever it takes to help them succeed.
My Project
I want each and every one of my students to feel safe and comfortable in my classroom. Last year I tried out alternative seating and it was wonderful. My kiddos did not have to sit in a chair at their tables. I lowered the tables and they were allowed to sit on the floor. We all know every child loves to sit however they please, especially on the floor. They are 5 and 6 year olds and it is hard to contain them to a chair. There is only one "correct" way to sit on a chair but there are many ways they can sit comfortably on the floor. These pillows will allow them to take their soft spots wherever they go in the classroom, not just stay at the table.
These donations will help make a difference with my students learning by making sure that they are comfortable no matter where they go in the classroom.
These pillows will allow them to wiggle and move and not make them feel confined to a chair. This will not only help with their learning because they are comfortable but it will positively effect the behaviors in the classroom.
