I teach 3rd grade at a Title I school. Many of our kids have a variety of different learning/behavioral needs. Some of my students work better while standing or moving around. Rather than trying to have them stop these behaviors, I would like to teach the students to find a work place that works the best for them and their learning.
No child is the same, nor do they learn in the same ways.
Therefore, as teachers we need to think about how children learn best. My students want to work in a place that is the most comfortable for them and their needs.
Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to choose a spot in the classroom that is best for their learning style and needs. When you were in school, did you prefer to do your homework on the floor or at a coffee table? Flexible seating provides the same kind of opportunities to students in the classroom. Who doesn't want to be comfortable all day?
By donating to my project you will help my students improve focus and work in an environment that is the most beneficial for their learning.
The stability balls, yoga mats, bouncy bands (for their chairs), and risers for standing desks will benefit all of my students, but they will especially help my special needs students that have a hard time controlling involuntary behaviors.
