Help me give my students razors, deodorant, laundry soap and other supplies they need to live with dignity and a few art supplies to help them get through this pandemic.
Students at my High School come from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Approximately 50% of students at our school are considered low income.
This semester, we started a "Kahok Closet" for all students to get supplies they need for free.
We have served numerous students since January and they have needed clothing, shoes, toiletries, school supplies and female hygiene items. Many of the students have returned monthly to get needed items, all of them donated. Students even bring donations to contribute, like hoodies they have outgrown. It has provided a sense of community and much needed support.
My Project
These materials will help meet the basic needs of students and provide them with comfort during this pandemic. The district is currently providing around 3,800 meals a day to families and students are also requesting hygiene, clothing and art supplies from the Kahok Closet.
Providing needed items to students during this pandemic will enable them to focus on their academics as they learn remotely for the duration of the year.
It will also build a stronger relationship with school for many students and demonstrate how much we all care about them.
