We are a self-contained team, which consist of 30 students with various disabilities. Working with two other special education teachers, we deliver all four core content classes to the students at their ability levels. Individual abilities of our students range from Pre-K to Grade 8.
In our program, we strive to meet the needs of all our learners.
One of these ways is through the use of a calm, welcoming atmosphere. Some of our students need special seating to address a lack of motor dexterity, some need to move around, while other students need a quiet space alone. I would like to provide a quiet, calm atmosphere where all students can learn.
My Project
In our classroom, we have many students with ADHD, autism and sensory needs. Alternative seating, lights, and GP headphones (calming music in an MP3 player with the headphones) will allow for the sensory breaks needed throughout the day. Our children with ADHD will also benefit from the fidgets, to assist with constant movement, while paying attention in class.
We need calming Autism Sensory LED Light Projector Toy Relax Blue Night Music Projection and B-Calm GP when they need a sensory break.
With these items, the classroom will have an overall calm and comforting atmosphere conducive to learning. These items will allow students to make the most of their academic environment and be comfortable while learning. We strive for each student to have all needs met.
