Our school is a gem nestled in a rural community in Limestone county. Most of our students are on free or reduced-price lunch. The area surrounding our school is mostly farmland. My students are beginning their academic careers and eager to learn. Our class has 19 students and one teacher...it gets a little crowded. Flexible seating will give us flexibility in where we learn.
My goal is to create an environment of learning.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. I want to give them an environment that they feel comfortable and safe.
Not every student can sit in the typical school desk without fidgeting or squirming. Some students like to stand, bounce or sit in non-traditional school chairs. Being comfortable allows students to retain more.
There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable-you cannot stay focused or do your best work.
If a student can choose where he or she wants to complete their work then they are more likely to their best work. Students will have to learn to use another seat if the one they want is in use. Flexible seating such as these bean bag chairs and ball chairs create an environment of learning and cooperation. It is a win-win for my students and myself.
