My Students
For seven years I have been a pre-kindergarten teacher to some of the brightest stars in New York City. I work at a title 1 school in the South Bronx, where resources are limited for our children.
My students work and play hard; they love coming to school and deserve the best.
That being said, I want to add more resources into our classroom that will further engage my students in their learning,
I adore my students and want to provide many different learning experiences. However, we need access to more materials to make this a possibility.
My Project
I would love to provide comfortable seating to my students while they work and play. For several years, we have been without a rug in our blocks center and it has contributed to many very noisy center times, as blocks are falling to the hard tile floor. This makes it difficult for students choosing to work at quieter centers because they are distracted by the noise. I would also love to have a comfortable rug in the library area, along with a lamp, so my students can read alone or with a buddy in a space that is nice cozy. Also, a new rug in our meeting area would allow for more space to create learning areas, as the one we have is huge and difficult to navigate around.
School is a home away from home for my students and they deserve to work in an environment that is comforting as this is where they spend a large amount of time.
Classroom area rugs and lamps give the classroom a home like feel and this is what I hope to be able to give to my students. I am also requesting additional blocks for our block area and a STEM marble run game so that my students can work on their problem solving skills while doing something they would find engaging. Thank you.
