My third-grade class is a curious, engaged, and enthusiastic group. They love that I trust them enough to give them a lot of freedom and choice in my classroom. They are a respectful bunch and deserve only the best! They come to school each day believing my classroom to be a safe and comfortable place for them to learn, interact, and grow according to their personal learning styles.
My students are unique individuals, and therefore learn and work in unique ways.
Sitting still at a hard desk is not the ideal way for all of my students to learn and complete their work.
My students have always had the option of completing their work by sitting anywhere in the classroom that works best for them. Unfortunately, I only have the basic hard desks provided by the school. As a result, many students want to lay down on the floor to complete their work, but our cold hard floors are not ideal for working comfortably and being as productive as possible. This is why I believe yoga mats would provide a comfortable way for them to lay out and focus on completing their assignments comfortably.
Additionally, most the workspaces we have currently are hard and unexciting.
Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to get some bean bag chairs, and they are a huge hit! I have personally seen students become more motivated to complete their work when it is their turn to sit in the bean bags. I truly believe that children (and adults) can be more productive when they are comfortable. You don't even see adults limited to hard chairs and desks at many companies nowadays. Therefore, I believe the couch, which can fit 3 children at a time, would also be a great addition to my classroom and would help increase students motivation and work production.
