My classroom is a learning environment specifically for students with Autism grades K-2. My students all have varying abilities and are all unique in their own right, but have moderate to severe needs. Not only are we working on academic skills, we are practicing social skills and how to self regulate our bodies.
My students require several different strategies and interventions to be successful throughout their school day.
My students require visuals, a consistent routine and ample opportunities to sensory integration to help them focus.
My Project
My students need seating in their classroom that allows them to focus and feel as comfortable. For students with Autism, the typical desk and chair seating arrangements will not always work. Part of my project consist of wobble chairs, which are ideal for wiggly bodies. These chairs are great and will be used to help students focus on their classwork and engage the body's core muscles, which makes them physically stronger. The over sized bean bags and pillows will be used to provide a personal visual boundary for students during our class meetings, personal and partner reading times and to create a safe comfortable space to self regulate. Currently, I am extremely limited in my comfortable seating. This project would benefit everyone one of my students in my classroom. Thank you!
