Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Over half of my students qualify for our free school lunch program. Many live in migrant apartment housing. Several of my students' families work in the fields or do farm work as their job.

All of my students are learning two languages, both Spanish and English.

They are being taught daily in both languages.

All of my students are eager to learn. Their parents want them to work hard in school and make a better life for themselves so that they do not have to follow in their footsteps and do farm work.

My Project

I have a cozy reading nook that needs some cozy reading chairs for my second grade students to read in. Every day students are engaged in literacy centers. One of our centers is called "read to self." We currently do not have any chairs to sit on in this area.

Students need to be able to cuddle up and enjoy a good book.

This type of requested seat would help them sustain in reading a book during this daily rotating reading center. These second grade learners are working hard to read at or above grade level and reading with these chairs would help them!
