My Students

My students arrive at school ready to learn and take on new academic and social challenges each day. It's my goal to meet these needs and to ensure learning within the classroom the best that I can.

Due to our age, the majority of our learning happens as we are gathered on the floor to hear stories, share projects, hold morning meetings, and participate in mini-lessons.

While the children are gathered on the floor I am able to ensure all can see, there is room for me to sit amongst them and we have room to move around as needed.

Sitting on the floor is a great way for the students to utilize whole body listening; however, it can be complicated by unknown boundaries of who's space is who's. Unfortunately, many students become overly concerned about "their space" at carpet time. While this is most often due to their age, it can impact their focus on the learning that is taking place.

I want to provide active learning that helps to keep the focus on the content. I love my school family and want the best for them!

My Project

Children want to feel warm and safe at school and having a carpet in the classroom provides a comfortable place for them to be. Classroom carpets and rugs look so fun and bright but apart from aesthetics, there really are advantages to having one in your classroom!

A carpet or rug is a great tool to use as a meeting area or communal space in a classroom.

It provides a friendly environment where a whole class or small groups can sit and communicate; ideal to use at lesson time, morning meetings or storytime. Carpets also have individual spaces for each child to have their own space to sit.

As classroom carpets are soft they will absorb sounds and reduce overall noise in a classroom. Reducing the levels of noise in a classroom will help with children’s concentration levels and therefore have a positive impact on learning.
