This is my second year teaching. I have a culturally diverse classroom where many of my students are bilingual. In order to provide my students with a meaningful learning experience, they will need a variety of cozy places in the classroom to work independently, with a peer, and with myself.
My fourth grade students have a lot of energy and love to work together in groups.
Having a variety of options for places to sit or things to use in the classroom will help create a strong classroom community as well as more focused and motivated students.
Help give my students flexible seating that allows them to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are able to work at different tables, laying on the carpet with a clipboard, or working at their desks. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. Currently, I have a few crate seats and regular stools. The bean bag chairs and balance balls will provide my students with variety for how and where they want to sit.
