My Students

I am a third grade special education teacher in Massachusetts. Many of the students in the district are faced with many challenges in school and out of school. More than 75% of the students have free lunch and more than 50% are low-income. Although they encounter lots of struggles in their life, they strive to be the best students they can be. Their willingness to learn is amazing to watch. Working in this school district has been very rewarding!

My Project

This area rug will help my student's focus during whole group time. Right now we do not have a rug and the students have to sit on the floor while we teach the whole group reading lesson. While most of the students are focused and participating, we have noticed that some students feel very uncomfortable sitting on the cold floor. With this rug, my students will be able to feel more at ease and have increased focus. Students will also be able to use this rug when they are working in small groups. At the beginning of the year, we asked the students what they would like to change about the room and one student asked for a whole group rug. I would love to be able to tell the student his wish came true!
