This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are eager to learn even though they face challenges in the classroom and distractions at home. Despite the many obstacles, they are able to persevere and find ways to participate each day! I’m proud of how they are trying to be consistent and powering through, even though there is a pandemic that has uprooted our way of life.
Although we started our year virtually, we are now utilizing a hybrid model of learning with some students in person and others online.
My classroom is a mixture of mainstream, ELL, Special Education, and Gifted Learners.
We are trying to socially distance and limit movement in the classroom. It’s difficult for students to stay comfortable in their stiff chairs. And with cold weather coming, they need individual and hands-on activities for indoor recess and independent study time.
My Project
The students will be more comfortable with cushioned or wobbly seats as in person learning continues for some of them but students have to remain seated most of the day. The additional books and games will help give them a break from their iPad.
When students are comfortable, they are able to stay focused and become more enthusiastic about their learning.
These items will greatly enhance their learning experience during this difficult time. Students will be excited to receive new items for the classroom, and when everyone finally comes back, we can add to a more flexible seating arrangement in our classroom.
