This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This school year I have the privilege of looping with half of my fourth graders from last school year. Our classroom is the inclusion fifth grade room with 27 smiling faces underneath their masks. We are in Orange County, and most students live in an urban, low socioeconomic area with all students receiving free breakfast/lunch. We believe in placing students in the least restrictive environments, as they learn to navigate, participate, and be a part of a grade level. Our room uses flexible seating systems, and this school year, more than ever, the social-emotional learning tools are proving to be vital throughout our day.

We begin and end our day with discussions around “Growth Mindset” and “The Power of Yet”.

We are always learning something new and each day students ask themselves, "Do I know how to do this yet?"

Our scholars goal set daily and use WICOR, SLANT, and RACE to help us act, study, and think like scholars. We can do challenging things together and each day we try our best. Being a fifth grade teacher is just awesome!

My Project

Have you ever looked at your Apple Watch to notice you have only 700 steps before 4:00 PM? Have you ever dismissed yourself from a meeting just to stretch your legs? Have you ever used the back of a chair to stretch your back?

I know you answered "yes" to all three of these questions.

You probably can continue to share ways that your legs, buns, and feet ache each day; plus your back is in constant need of a massage. Comfortable, flexible, mobile, cheery, and easy to clean seating is a MUST as students transition back to school. Help me give my students new seats for our classroom.
