My students come from various cultural and social background in a wonderfully beautiful neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY.
They are a group of eager learners and readers, and share a strong love towards books as I do.
We love to discuss complex topics, debate from different perspectives, and also build empathy through discussions and readings. Each student brings their own unique experience and knowledge into the classroom that further helps our classroom community to grow a better understanding of each other and the world.
My Project
Students learn best by accessing different modes of seats throughout the day. As students who are continuously growing physically (emotionally and academically also!), seating 32 or more students on a rug can lead to little or no personal space. Independent reading for 30-60 minutes on flat wooden chairs can be uncomfortable for different learners. It can often making the experience monotonous and mundane.
By purchasing these two wooden benches with cushions on top, my students will be able to sit comfortably during mini-lessons, and also have the option to sit in these seats during independent work to fully optimize their learning experience.
Each student learns differently, and often times the structure of a classroom furniture can help enhance the way students dive into learning. I understand that furniture does not promote a reading atmosphere more than the expectations the students and I set for ourselves. I have high expectations towards my students, as they do for themselves in regards to learning. We continue to grow these expectations throughout the year. These furniture would be a great addition towards continuously enabling students to further empower themselves in reading and learning throughout the year.
