My students need a colorful, comfortable place where they can sit, learn, chat, read and play in our classroom. This rug gives each student a defined space of their own to sit comfortably.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This coming school year I anticipate teaching 18 amazing first graders! Of these students, over 50% will be ESOL and about 65% will be free and reduced meal eligible. These students come in to school ready to learn and do their best to participate in all classroom activities. They are sweet, fun and excited! The carpet is the hub of our classroom. It is not only where I teach them, but where we can talk and connect with one another and where they have opportunities to talk with one another as well!
My Project
Ever morning in my classroom begins with calendar, weather and a morning message from the teacher outlining the day. Where does this beginning of the day routine happen, you ask? Why, the carpet of course! This carpet will be the gathering place for our class community. It not only matches our cactus theme (we’re pretty sharp 😉) with the green and brown color circles, but it gives each student a defined space of their own within each square. It lends itself to color talking partners and can help students who need a pre-assigned seat find it easily. I believe that this carpet will brighten up our space while allowing us to come together comfortably and respectfully.
