Comfortable and Flexible Seating = More Attentive Students!
Help me give my students seats that will help them have fun and be comfortable during my lessons which in turn will help them focus such as the Big Joe Bean Bag chairs and the wobble stool!
I am a public elementary school Health teacher and therefore am lucky enough to teach all 515 students in my school. I teach Kindergarten through 5th grade and I have every class in the school once per week for 45 minutes. I teach students of nearly every race, culture, and background. I have students who like to sit, I have students who like to stand or move, I have students who need to be able to move and some who simply cannot sit for more than a few minutes.
The thing that all of my students have in common is that they want to have fun while they are learning and want to be engaged in the lesson because they learn and retain information better when these things happen.
My students like coming to my classroom because they know it is a safe and fun place where they can be comfortable.
My Project
Since I teach Health and Wellness, I like to make my lessons and my classroom setup as conducive to a healthy lifestyle as possible. There is a lot of moving during my lessons as well as the ability to sit in a comfortable seat which helps them relax and pay closer attention to the topic at hand. Sitting on an uncomfortable seat with your legs under a desk for an entire day can make anybody fidget and lose interest and focus more on their lack of comfort. Students who need to be able to move need these seats even more.
My classroom is unlike any I have ever seen in that there are NO desks or tables or regular chairs.
I have 20-25 flexible & comfy seats kept along the edges of the room. When the kids are sitting, they can move them around and when we are moving, the seats go back along the edge so that we have an entire classroom space to move safely in. Each student gets called randomly at the beginning of class and picks their seat for the rest of the class period.
