This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from different backgrounds and socioeconomic status. They are five students with intellectual disability. It is a very hard group. I am their third teacher this year. They feel unwanted and betray. They do not trust anyone right now. I want to gain their trust back. Before I can teach I need to meet their basic needs and one of those is to feel secure and wanted. My students are very sweet and eager to learn. They just need motivation.

My Project

I am making a safe place for my students. I will use the canopy and the bean bags for the safe place. My students have had a rough year. I am their third teacher in the year and they do not trust anyone now. I feel that creating a safe place for them might create a little trust and I can start building a positive rapport with them. The safe place will be used as a calming down sanctuary. There will be calming down strategies and breathing techniques. They need to feel wanted. So, in a way is like a gift for them, but it will be used for so much more. The cushion seats will make their bodies rest and be more comfortable while seating and learning.
