The students in my classroom are helpful and enthusiastic. They are used to making decisions that will benefit the classroom. They do well listening to what their classmates have to say, and give feedback to them. My students are used to talking with each other in a group setting, and they are comfortable expressing their thinking or opinions to the class.
6th period is a jam-packed class, with 32 kids in it, and it's also full of extensive discussion. When given a topic to discuss, they often go deeper into the matter then I expected. As it's last block, the kids bring a lot of energy, in part because they're eager to leave. I need to find a solution to help the kids concentrate more, while still maintaining this energy.
Recently, a student, Mollie, said to me, "These chairs suck and they're really uncomfortable. We should get yoga balls." And, here we are!
Couches in our classroom will set a welcoming environment. They will boost our group discussions by having the students sit closer with one another. We would also use the couches during silent reading mode. The couches will be a much more comfortable location then the hard plastic chairs.
Stability balls will greatly benefit our classroom, as students are sick and tired of sitting in the hard plastic chairs. The chairs are distinctly uncomfortable and it’s incredibly hard to focus while sitting on them. Many students fidget, and stability balls are the solution to their fidgeting. When kids make little movement on the balls, they release excess amounts of energy. Stability balls also engage their minds by working both sides of their brains while maintaining balance in the center. Stability balls will be very beneficial to their posture, focus, and overall classroom experience.

In Their Own Words
In my classroom, my classmates and I would like to feel more comfortable in class. We are trying to accomplish the same level of comfort for everyone. By obtaining couches and yoga balls, that will add comfort and will improve our attitudes and focus immensely. With these materials provided, students who struggle in the classroom can now discover what they're capable of.
With this opportunity to lead a project, it will improve my real life interactions. I will make the most out of this project by helping my classmates and I receive the items we need in order to succeed. I will gain knowledge on how to be a better leader for high school and beyond.
Receiving yoga balls and couches will overcome the problems associated with poor concentration and bad attitudes. These items will increase the energy level of the class, boosting our group discussions in class. When I leave Salmon Bay, the intention is for all the incoming students to use these resources to benefit their learning, like my class will.
