This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students were so excited when we recently added new tables to our classroom. The pub-height tables are a huge hit, but the stools that came with them are definitely not. During the first class periods, students gave up their prized positions at the new tables to return to traditional desks because the stools were so hard and uncomfortable.

Sitting is hard enough for a normal 50-minute class period, but in April the 8th graders will have 3-hour testing periods.

There is no way that students will be able to focus if they are uncomfortable. So, I'm asking for three different options--cushions to put on existing stools, wheeled padded stools, and stationary stools with padded seats and backs. Students will be able to choose what is the best option for them. This project also includes cardboard and holders to make simple privacy dividers for testing. State testing is a high-stakes endeavor for 8th graders and for our school and district. I want my students to be able to show what they know and not be distracted and give up because they are uncomfortable.
