My special education classroom is comprised of students with various obstacles they strive to overcome daily.
I have chosen two different types of headphones to assist my special education students in my classroom as well as outside in other environments. Providing noise-canceling headphones with microphones will help bring their ideas to life when writing in my class or to overcome the difficulty of reading with dyslexia.
The purpose of flexible seating arrangements is to meet the needs of my students by providing a wide variety of furniture and workspaces to put students at the center of learning. This will allow them to make choices based on their preferences and the objectives of the task at hand.
Many flexible seating options will stimulate students' sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with ADHD, ADD, and ASD.
Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed remarkable differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and complete more work than when just sitting at their desk.
The selected products will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The standing and pedal desks will allow students nondisruptive movement and the release of energy usually associated with ADHD, ADD, & ASD. The amount of work students have completed while using the recently incorporated pedal desk in a colleague's room is outstanding. I want to bring that success to my special education classroom.
