My Students

My students are energetic 7th graders who are easily excitable with new books and projects! Although the majority of the students in my class are reading below grade level, they are still enthusiastic learners who just need a little more guidance when it comes to learning to love reading. Luckily, they have an awesome library to access in 7th grade.

Seventh grade is an incredibly difficult year in life, especially when dealing with the harsh realities of poverty.

The neighborhood I work in is high poverty. Many students are in the foster care system or live in shelters. School for them is a safe space where they are cared for and where they truly get to express themselves!

My Project

Very few people, adults or children, enjoy reading at a tiny desk. That is exactly why cushions and large pillows will help my students find reading at school more pleasurable. These materials mean that students can create the ideal environment they need to focus on their fantastic reading books.

With cozy places to lay down or sit, students will get to engage in their reading without worrying about how uncomfortable they feel in a school chair.

Reading is a gift, but if students don't want to read or don't like reading then that gift is lost. Anything that helps students want to read is always going to have a positive impact on the classroom vibe!
