Help me give my students granola bars so they are able to get through the day without having eaten breakfast. They need ice packs for minor injuries and pain and a weighted blanket to comfort students with anxiety.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds and are extremely hardworking. I am amazed by the hard work that they put in on a daily basis.
Despite the many challenges they may face, my students are eager to learn new things, ask questions, and conduct experiments.
We are located in the San Antonio District, east of Lake Merritt, and our demographics reflect those of our neighborhood with approximately 35% Latino, 44% Asian, and 18% African American students. Many of our students have immigrated to the United States, and many more will be the first in their family to attend college. Approximately 40% of our students are English Language Learners, and over 94% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch programs.
My Project
Young people deserve to have their basic needs met. I'm requesting breakfast bars, fruit snacks, and ice packs for minor injuries. In addition to this, I am requesting for a few fidget bands to help students concentrate. Many students do not eat breakfast or lunch and I believe that providing them with a snack can help get them through the school day.
Hunger is a very real problem for our students.
Many students come to school each day without eating. Our district recently cut our student´s supper program, which gives our students a meal before returning home. The harmful affect of these cuts are made obvious in our increasingly hungry students. Research shows hunger greatly affects a student´s ability to focus and retain learning. Additionally, behavioral difficulties are much more likely to occur when a student is hungry. No child should miss out on their education due to hunger.
I began the year with about 350 granola bars believing they would last me the semester. The granola bars that I had from a previous project lasted about two months. Because our school is located in a food desert, access to healthy snacks is limited. My students love these healthy breakfast bars and are eager to get more! Please help put our care for young people into action by providing healthy breakfast bars and snacks to these awesome students.
