My students need the Ocean Carpet and other items so that we can do whole group instruction, they can work on the carpet during small groups and they have a comfy spot to read!
Students at this school come from a variety of backgrounds. Many of these students have difficult home lives whether it is because they are low income, they have divorced parents or they are struggling with other problems in life. Each one of my students walk into the classroom each day with a different story. It is my job to make them feel comfortable and ready to learn in the classroom.
My students know that they are not just a classroom of random people, they know that in the classroom: WE ARE A FAMILY.
We all support one another and are there for each other no matter the situation.
These students are motivated to do their best. Each day I tell them to come in and show me what they know! We always high five at the end of the day because leaving on a positive note is the best way to say see you tomorrow!
My Project
As I continue my teaching career and move to 2nd grade there is a need for a carpet. The carpet will allow the students to come together as a whole group whether it be for morning meeting, read aloud time or during a lesson. The carpet is a great place to create a sense of family. Students can share stories of things from home, we can read books that take us on adventures and we can have fun brain breaks when we just need a break. The carpet will be extremely helpful for these 7 and 8 year old students. During independent work times the students will be able to choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Some may prefer to stay at their desk where others may like to move to the carpet, find a soft spot or sit in a comfy chair.
Let's all come to the carpet and work hard together to do the best we can!
