My Students

I teach in a very rural public school with a high poverty rate and extremely limited resources. We are the only elementary school in our district and our school is surrounded by farmland with the closest town being about 5 miles away. Every student at our school receives free breakfast and lunch through a national program. I teach about 55 second graders on a daily basis that love learning and are excited to come to school every day. School is the only constant in some of my students' lives so I always strive to create a safe and positive learning environment for my students.

My students are authors, illustrators, readers, mathematicians, historians, and scientists.

They have big dreams, and I want them to be able to achieve those dreams! My dream is to provide them with everything they need in order to be able to succeed inside and outside if the classroom.

My Project

If you enter my classroom you will see that we spend over half our class time in Guided Reading groups or other small group activities. Small group time is my favorite time of day, this is the time I get to really know my students as learners and individuals.

Currently, our small group time is spent at a rectangular table, which does not allow me to be able to help or meet with each student easily.

A new horseshoe table will allow me to be easily accessible to my students and to be able to instruct them better individually. With this table, I will be able to see all my students.
