My students need opportunities to build their skills through dramatic play with the use of a new grocery center that includes a Grocery Store and Lemonade Stand.
I have an amazing group of 4 years old this year! They are inquisitive and eager to learn. My program is income based, so all of my students are of lower socioeconomic status. Providing students with a variety of learning opportunities to prepare them for kindergarten is my highest priority.
There are 20 students in my class, and they are all unique individuals.
Catering to each of their interests can be challenging. When we are able to provide materials that are interesting to them, they are much more engaged and learn more.
My Project
Dramatic play teaches self-regulation. When children play together in a dramatic play center, the assign roles and rules, and work to follow them. This helps them role play real world situations and understand their world.
A market play center would build a beginning of financial literacy, and fine tune speech skills.
By pretending to purchase items and exchanging money for goods they begin to understand how money is used in real life. This authentic practice is invaluable and is a college and career readiness skill!
The pretend conversations in a dramatic play center may seem silly to adults, but the children are learning! They are practicing turn taking and learning vocabulary too.
