Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Preschool is the place to be! Students within this community come from extreme poverty. They enter the classroom eager to learn and are introduced to new things throughout the year.
I work with a group of amazing, diverse students who soak up new information as they explore the tools in the classroom.
My preschool classroom is set up to be student-led and allow the students to work at their own pace.
As a result, students are able to develop at their level in a very low-stakes environment. The activities stimulate their interest while helping to make sense of the world around them. There is no greater place to be than a PreK classroom!
My Project
The kids in PreK are learning something new everyday. As we sit and work with the students, we are able to see the children's curiosity grow when they work with the manipulatives in the classroom. We also see the different things that hold the student's interest. The wedgets, blocks, and cars are student favorites. We don't have enough of these items for the students to deeply engage in. When students are interested in working with these items, sometimes there are not enough supplies to support their learning.
The wedgets, blocks, and cars will allow equitable access for the children to explore and play.
This will support peer learning and a safe environment for the students to work. There will be enough items for students to work with independently or in a large group if they choose. With your support, we can make it happen for them.
