Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in a large, urban city with a diverse population. Many of my students come from single-parent families or from families where both parents work long hours to support their families. Often times, several generations live together in the same house.
Many of my students come from homes where English is not the only language spoken, and many have come to us from other countries.
All of my students receive free lunch. I am lucky enough to teach an awesome group of middle school students who are creative, eager, and enthusiastic. They are always interested in learning more about a topic and constantly challenge me to be on my toes. I want to teach my kids the required subject matter, but I also want to teach them to be themselves, have fun learning and to love reading! Thank you for joining us on our journey.
My Project
My students and I consider ourselves a family and our classroom is like our second home. Because everyone works better when they are in a comfortable environment, we have worked hard to make our classroom a relaxing, comfortable place for all of us to do our best. We have put together a great library with comfy couches and floor pillows. My students have really enjoyed having several choices when it comes to where they can work.
We would now like to expand our seating choices by adding some wobble stools to use at tables and desks in our room.
The wobble stools are a great option for all of my students but especially for those who struggle with sitting still in a desk. I have many students who need movement during the day in order to help them concentrate. I think these stools are a great way for them to move around without disturbing their classmates.
