Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I public elementary school that serves more than seven hundred fifty children. More than four hundred of the students at my school have families that struggle economically and are forced to work many hours to make ends meet.

Most of them receive free or reduced-rate lunch and don't have access to a computer in their homes.

In my Kindergarten classroom, I teach students with a variety of interests and abilities. A few of the skills we work on throughout their first school year, is imitating sounds, learning to count, recognizing and writing letters, addition, and READING!

After a lot of research, I decided to implement flexible seating in my room. I love the results! This gives children the choice of where they think they will learn best that day. Taking ownership in the learning. The results are amazing. We have a fun and inviting classroom. The students love it! Flexible seating can get expensive, so it's been a slow process.

School is an integral part of their everyday lives and this pandemic has wreaked havoc on their daily lives and social relations. I love making our classroom welcoming and comfortable.

My Project

Sadly, most classrooms are full of regular desks and hard plastic chairs! It has been proven that children learn better when their environment is comfortable and welcoming. Flexible seating not only provides the students with this, but it also gives them the choice of where they feel they will learn best that day. This gives them ownership in their learning day. Some students work better where they can wiggle or bounce a bit, others on a pillow or on their belly. I wondered how this would look in kindergarten, as this was the first year to actually implement it due to Covid the past few years. It is amazing watching them! They absolutely love it!

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand in a warm, welcoming, comfortable environment.
