This year I will be teaching 22 eager and enthusiastic third graders. Fourteen of these students are looping up with me from second grade. They are all super excited about learning and thrive in a secure and engaging environment. Most of my students come from extreme poverty and have a difficult home life. School has become a safe haven for them and provides the structure that they so desperately need. My students are resilient and continue to surprise me in the face of adversity.
A beautiful, inviting rug can be the central focus of any classroom. Not only is our classroom rug outdated, but it is not suitable for my Third Graders' growing bodies. I came from Kindergarten several years ago and my rug is simply not big enough for my kiddos now. They often complain about being crowded and uncomfortable. Many have to overflow from the carpet onto the tile floor. My goal would be to keep my entire class together during whole group instruction. I don't like making some students sit in a chair or sit on the bare floor. Being together on the rug makes us feel connected as a class and united in our learning. Thank you for your contribution to my classroom and to the comfort of my students.
