My students need a quilt painting kit, fabric paints, origami paper, dinosaur designs and books to fuel their imagination and bring the dinosaurs they are studying about to life.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Art supplies can provide many things for my students. They can allow my students to fuel their imaginations and create beautiful art projects that combine the areas of art, literature and science.
I have a wonderful class of second graders.
Our school is located in a high immigrant, low income community in California. The parents of most of my students never finished high school. Many of my students will be the first ones in the family to finish high school and hopefully college too. Most of my students are English learners and I have several students with learning disabilities too. I also mainstream several deaf and hard of hearing students into my all inclusive classroom.
My Project
These art supplies will be used to create amazing art projects in my classroom that will be part of our science and language arts curriculum. My students will study dinosaurs and fossils this spring. As part of this unit, they will each get to choose a dinosaur to learn about and complete a dinosaur report. They will also learn how to draw their dinosaur. The dinosaur books will be used to help the students with their drawings. I plan on shrinking their drawings on the copier and use carbon paper to transfer the drawings to the quilt pieces. Then we will use the fabric paint to change their drawings into amazing dinosaur pictures on the quilt pieces. These quilt pieces will be put together to create an amazing dinosaur quilt! The other art supplies will also be used during this dinosaur unit to create origami dinosaurs and dinosaur dioramas. These art supplies will enrich my science and literature units.
This project will allow my students to use the information they are learning about dinosaurs to create amazing art projects.
It will enable my students to go beyond just reading about dinosaurs. These supplies will enrich my curriculum and allow my students to become excited about what they are learning!
