Many of our students come from low-income families with limited resources. Some of the students come from broken homes, some are raised where drugs are present, and some suffer from neglect. It is our goal to provide resources and supplements to give every student the best education possible. We also strive daily to give them love and a fun learning environment.
Kindergarten is such a valuable time in a child's life.
We are learning to write, read, draw, how to share, how to be a good friend, and how to control our behavior. Our students range from EC to ready to read. We celebrate every small victory according to the student (stickers, treat box, candy, free reading center, etc).
The pandemic puts many restrictions on our normal activities. We are working hard to make things as safe and fun as possible. We are doing lots of hands-on activities in our core subjects and adding art when we can as well. They love to paint and we love to watch them express themselves.
My Project
In kindergarten, we tie as many subject areas as possible together. The creative process that drawing adds to science, math and writing is amazing. Being able to illustrate helps children who struggle academically to make connections that otherwise may never happen.
Our students will use these art materials to illustrate stories, draw predictions for science experiments, as well as word problems in math.
The math and reading curriculum that we currently use require illustrations. For example, in math, they are given a number and they have to draw it out and make up a word problem to accompany it.
All children like to feel like they make a difference in someone's life. We are participating in random acts of kindness. We will use some of the art materials to complete them. Our class is making ornaments, cards, and other crafts for staff and community members. They are learning to give back, but not always getting credit for doing so.
