Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in our school community (grades 9-12) encompass a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and ideas all of which help create a diverse learning environment. Many of our students have difficulty seeing the value of education and they have limited resources to help support their emotional, personal, and educational growth.
While I try to do what I can to engage my students it has become an increasingly difficult task.
Like most young adults my students are engrossed in the present (friends and social media) and cannot see beyond that to the importance of their school experience. As a result, students are disengaged in the classroom. Many students have attendance issues, and many also have a difficult time focusing on daily classroom tasks.
My goal is to engage students in their high school experience so that they can take control of their education and their futures!
My Project
I would love to use these coloring materials to help my students unwind and relax from their stressful lives. Many students bring stress into the classroom which causes them to become disengaged and disconnected from our classroom tasks.
I want to use the coloring materials so all students have a productive way to unwind and ease the stress from their lives.
All students deserve the opportunity to learn and engage in their daily educational learning. Because students come into the classroom with anxiety and stress it becomes difficult for them to focus. I want my students to be able to grab a coloring book and free their minds of worries so they can better focus on their learning and become engaged in classroom activities.
Because adult coloring books are so detailed they also provide an opportunity for "collaborative coloring" where one student can pick up and continue coloring where another student left off. This unique opportunity will also allow students to build relationships through their collaboration. The organization tools will allow the materials to be displayed in a way for all to see and access so anyone can pick up coloring materials, dig in, and begin to find a sense of relaxation and mindfulness so students can focus on their learning!
