My Students

My Science Olympiad students are interested in going above and beyond the normal school day!

They are creative and inquisitive, and are willing to tackle challenges that get them out of their comfort zones.

They work in small groups and put in many hours outside of class studying science content, designing experiments, and building and refining science and engineering projects.

They compete against other middle school teams at the regional and state levels. They love to cheer each other on!

My Project

This Vernier colorimeter will be used by my Fundamentals of Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, College Chemistry I, and College Chemistry II classes for a variety of projects throughout the school year.

An additional colorimeter will make it easier for my students to learn more efficiently.

In recent years, some of my older equipment has been failing, and I would like to replace it with some newer equipment. We will do labs such as measuring the amount of red food coloring in 7-Up, measuring the amount of copper in a solution, and other activities involving monitoring concentration by absorbance value, such as monitoring the kinetics of crystal violet deterioration and blue dye bleaching.
