Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an urban school in the northeast with 100% of the students getting free or reduced-price lunches.
Many of my students have challenging home lives and speak English as a Second Language. They are eager learners but sometimes struggle to meet the rigorous standards after a challenging few years of COVID learning. My school's goal is to help students build PRIDE (Pride, Responsibility, Individuality, Determination, and Engagement) in their daily learning. Through many hands-on activities and group projects, students are closing the learning gap and rising to meet every new fifth-grade challenge.
My Project
These supplies will help to restock our classroom for continued creative learning experiences. Markers and card stock will contribute to our group projects and presentations during Social Studies, Reading and Writing. We will also use these materials to continue our diligent work studying the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and world activists who are making important changes in the world. We are working on becoming better writers (with our grammar game), mathematicians (with our white boards and erasers), and future activists and leaders (with our presentation materials-markers, sentence strips etc) and, of course, we know how important it is to keep safe during COVID with our masks.
