My students need a defined space for our class meetings and read alouds. This rug will provide a designated space for them to have class meetings, work on literacy workshops, math workshops, and so much more!
My students are amazing young people! Not only do they work very hard in meeting the state standards, but they also work hard to be kind people. They encourage each other and tell each other it’s ok if they didn’t get the answer right. They high five each other when they do get the answer right, completely unprompted by me!
This group of young people has so much compassion for each other it amazes me every day!
They come from low socioeconomic households and qualify for free breakfast and lunch. You wouldn’t know that by walking into our classroom though. If a student needs a pencil, other students are willing to give up their last one, or one that is very special to them.
They are amazing people and just need people to believe in them and to help them reach their full potential.
My Project
My students work best with clear instructions and examples. This also is true when we have class meetings. A clearly defined space would help my students to know where they are to sit and work when we are meeting and working on the carpet. This particular rug caught my eye because we also work on math terms, in particular the perimeter of the carpet. This rug has a clear indication of where the perimeter is located.
Clearly defining a space with this rug will help my students know where to meet and work.
We currently have two area rugs purchased in discount stores in the classroom but they are becoming unsafe as they are starting to fall apart. This rug will provide a safe space for my students to meet and learn.
