Help me give my students the materials they need to create colorful and exciting models to put in their interactive notebooks to enhance their learning experience in Biology.
My students are freshmen and sophomores within a rapidly growing suburban neighborhood, which is located in a historic seaport town. The school has seen an exponential increase in its enrollment over the last few years, with funds and classroom space becoming a challenge to obtain.
The students in my Honors and College Prep classes are all students who are on track to attend a two or four year college upon graduation from high school.
As a science teacher, it is with utmost importance that I prepare my students in every way possible to be successful in their college career by providing them with an essential skills set within the science classroom. By incorporating engaging hands-on experiences and opportunities to use the best equipment possible, the students are set up for success for their post-high school educational careers.
My Project
The materials that are requested in this project will be used by my Honors and College Preparatory Biology classes to create various different models to use throughout the class. These models range from dry erase marker drawings on the desk to cut and paste paper models. One example of the modeling that we do in biology is that we build the four major classes of molecules using different colors to represent the different building blocks of the molecules. The colors show the students that each molecule is made up of many different smaller pieces represented by the different colors of paper. These models are crucial to the ensuring the students understand the processes in biology. They are a crucial part of our interactive notebooks where the students paste them directly into their notes.
Regardless of the type of model, it is imperative that they are colorful, eye catching and captivating to the students.
The supplies requested will ensure that the models that are being created and used will inspire further creativity within the students as the are creating their models. The pens and pencils will be used to ensure that all students have a writing implement during class so there is never any excuse to why they cannot complete their work. Lastly, the sign holders are used during station rotations in which examples of models and instructions are on display at each station for the students to reference during the activity.
