This is my 22nd year teaching. 21 of those years have been in Kindergarten. I can't imagine teaching any other grade. I see such wonderful changes that take place in just this one school year. They come to me not knowing how to write their names nor able to even draw stick figures. By the end of the year, they are able to write sentences and can draw very detailed pictures with a lot of colors. It is very satisfying to witness such accomplishments. I love to see their little eyes shine when I tell them how good their handwriting has become or how artistic their drawings are, their spelling, using spaces in sentences etc... I am not that artistic, but they make me feel like I am. After I model a writing or drawing activity, they "ooooh" and "aww" my work. It just makes you giggle.
My sweet students come in each day with a big smile ready to learn something new.
I love that they feel so loved by me and that school is such a happy place for them. I get called Mama almost as much as my name.
My Project
I would love to have a color printer so that I can make colorful games for centers. It is very important at this age that children learn how to share and work with others. The games would be for small pairs to work on skills that are being taught whole group.
I think kids learn by doing hands on activities.
I can't wait to give them rhyming, sight word, numbers and pattern games to play. The options are endless! I am a visual learner so I understand the need for color in learning.
I would love to make labels for story telling pieces that I send home in Ziploc bags for the children to keep. My hope is that the children will keep using them over and over. The copier here at school does not print in color and will not print labels.
