Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Not long ago, when I first began teaching, students would come to school at the start of the year with new backpacks and all new supplies. Teachers were given sufficient amounts to order what they needed to last an entire school year. This is no longer the case today.
I teach 6th grade in a Title One school.
My students come from diverse ethnic and socio-economic households. They are a spirited group and all contribute their own uniqueness to our classroom in their own ways. Throughout the day day I have 70 students and together we make time to laugh and learn. I do my best to make the learning process as engaging as possible by adding music, dance, and color as often as possible. In this way, the kids not only enjoy the process, but also retain the information longer.
My Project
I am requesting art supplies that will help carry us through the rest of this school year and hopefully into the fall as well. The materials we need include markers, colored pencils, paper, glitter glue, and colored paper. Among some of the daily math and science projects that we use these materials for are; posters, pamphlets, booklets, and diagrams. We also have lengthier reports and projects coming up this spring as well as scrap books for which we will be needing art supplies.
These materials will help my students continue making the fabulous, colorful projects they enjoy in math and science as well as the larger projects we have planned this spring.
