My Students

My students are a mix group of children from different cultural backgrounds who attend a Title 1 school. Their primary languages are either English, Spanish, or Vietnamese. They are currently in a Vietnamese Dual Immersion class, a new program in our district; because this is a new program, we lack essential materials to help reach our students' potential.

These amazing 15 students in Transitional Kindergarten are learning how to speak, read, and write in English and Vietnamese every day.

They are now able to identify many letters and know the sounds in both languages. The students enjoy building sentences and reading books in Vietnamese.

My Project

Teaching Vietnamese to a group of five years old needs lots of colorful and engaging visuals to captivate their attention. As I introduce new vocabulary words or read books that my students and I wrote together, I need to use eccentric clip arts or photos that attract their attention.

The color printer will definitely make the vocabulary cards and the books look more vibrant.

My students will be able to use the vocabulary word cards to identify words with pictures and build coherent sentences. They will also be eager to read colorful Vietnamese class books that we compose together as a class.
