Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach the most amazing kindergarteners and first graders! My students come from the neighborhood surrounding our school, many living below the poverty line. Our school is part of an innovation network within Denver, working to provide equitable and meaningful education for our children, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status.
I strive to provide high-quality and engaging learning experiences in order to foster a life-long love of learning in all of my students.
The students at our school do love learning - they are excited to come to school every day and learn about subjects such as literacy, math, social studies, and science. School is also a place for them to learn how to be a good friend, solve problems, and become global-minded citizens. They are inquisitive and engaged, and they love to bring smiles to the faces of all who are around them.
These students bring their contagious joy to our school and community, they are the reason I do what I do, and they deserve nothing but the best!
My Project
My students do much of their learning through differentiated instruction in small groups. To help ensure that each of my students has clear access to the materials they need to meet their specific learning needs, I am asking for color-coordinated storage bins. You may think this seems trivial, however it will go a long way in streamlining our classroom routines and helping students have a clear understanding of where to find their materials. Because my small groups are organized by color, each group will have a bin of the corresponding color in which to store their differentiated materials. For example, students in the red group will look for the red bin at each of their stations. Throughout the day, students rotate through five math stations and five literacy stations in small groups, both teacher-led and independent. The consistency of looking for their group's materials in the corresponding colored bins at each station will ensure that they don't have to spend searching, and instead can focus on their learning tasks!
