My preschool special education class provides early intervention services to qualifying special needs children. My class size ranges between 6-8 students, ages 3-5 years. My school is located in a predominantly rural, low-income neighborhood with a considerable portion of the children of Hawaiian and/or Pacific Island ancestry.
My Project
I'm one of those teachers who likes the classroom clean, engaging, and relevant. While I won't make it to the Project Runway sewing room, I can sew rectangles. I will use the fabric and thread to make curtains for my cubbies which I will rotate according to our units of study. The Velcro will be sewn to attach the curtains to the cubbies.
In addition, while I was checking out the fabric store web site I came across the cutest kid chef hats. We have the aprons, and these chef hats will top off the dress-up look. However, it's not just the look, we really can and routinely do cook. (We made a scrambled eggs and waffles for our spring brunch.) My keiki will love wearing these hats.

The curtains I make from this fabric and supplies will brighten my classroom, tie into our themes and keep the focus where it needs to be.
