My students need flexible seating options such as floor cushions and a table to sit or kneel at. This will allow students to work comfortably during reading and math workshop time.

Second graders deserve the opportunity to learn in a comfortable and positive learning environment.
Second graders are eager and impressionable learners. They strive to learn more every day and deserve a variety of choices that best fit their needs. My students are loving, hands-on students who love to be challenged. I want to provide them with a classroom that supports their needs and encourages growth within themselves, as well as, their social interactions.
Many of my students come from low income families or are English Language Learners, therefore, may not always have the privilege of choice or comfort. I want my classroom to be a place to build choice and confidence while being comfortable!
My Project
During independent work times my students are given a choice of where they want to learn in the classroom. My classroom is a student centered classroom and flexible seating will allow me to reach a larger variety of learners. By providing a variety of seating choices, it will further allow my students to reflect on their academic and social needs.
Students who have a choice in their learning, even if it is just where and how they sit, will be more engaged and successful.
They will be able to take charge of their learning through the power of choice.
The seating and furniture I chose were selected so that most items were easy to move by the students, which allows them to move the pieces around the room to a comfortable space. The bean bag allows for comfort while working independently, floor cushions were chosen as a way to encourage partner learning, and the table facilitates group learning.
